7th Grade Electives




In 7th grade, students have four choices. They may take as many GT courses as their schedules will allow. Classes are 9 weeks long and one is offered each quarter. Below are brief course descriptions.

7th Grade

Women’s Culture

· Women in history who changed history (research & multimedia presentation)
· Issues that affect women across the world and in the US (discussion)
· Issues that affect you as a female (blogs)
· Community service and leadership (Race for the Cure)

21st Century Technology

  • Email/Wikis/Blogs: (gmail, wikispaces, blogger)
  • Digital Photography/Videography: (picasa web albums, voicethread, movie maker, more)
  • Podcasting/Web broadcasting/Communication: (audacity, teachertube, skype)
  • Maps/GPS Navigation: (google maps, google earth, geocaching)
  • Digital Footprints/Online Responsibility: (various videos & blogs)
  • Subscription Databases: (ebsco)
  • Social Media/Networking: (what is facebook, linkedin, twitter, etc.?)
  • RSS Feeds: (google reader, igoogle)
  • Other Awesome Tools: (jing, mapalist, vocaroo, google calendar, shelfari, pandora, more)

Science Olympiad

  • Individual & team preparation for Science Olympiad competition in March
  • Three categories:
    • Building (robots, bridges, catapults, etc.)
    • Tests (astronomy, meteorology, fossils, etc.)
    • Labs (physics, biology, chemistry, etc.)

Leadership

  • Understanding characteristics of a leader (blogs)
  • Leading a group (teambuilding activities)
  • Community service project
